A Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday stopped the Adewale Omirin-led Ekiti State House of Assembly from impeaching Governor Ayodele Fayose and his deputy, Dr Olusola Eleka, pending the determination of a suit by the factional speaker of the Assembly, Hon Dele Olugbemi and six others.

In his ruling on the ex-parte application by Olugbemi and other plaintiffs, Justice E. Chukwu also set aside all the activities of Omirin –led faction to impeach Fayose and Eleka.

The judge also granted leave to the plaintiffs to serve the originating summons on the defendants through newspaper advertisements.

Olugbemi and six other Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had filed the suit, asking the
court to declare the seats of 19 All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers vacant on the grounds that they have abdicated their functions since November 21, 2014.

The plaintiffs are also asking the court to restrain the police from aiding, abetting or assisting the lawmakers from carrying out any illegal act.

The plaintiffs also named Omirin, the APC legislators, the Inspector General of Police and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as co-defendants to the suit.
The case has been adjourned till May 13.
