An uncle has revealed the final moment he saw his eight nieces and nephews before they were found stabbed to death at a Cairns home on Friday.
He told Daily Mail Australia the children were in the front yard of the property while he spoke to their 37-year-old mother, who's been arrested for murder, just a day before the tragedy.
She told her brother-in-law that she had 'found God and was changing her life around'.
Police confirmed on Saturday the woman is a mother to seven of the children and an aunt of the eighth.
It was then revealed four of the children were girls - aged 14, 12, 11 and two - and the remaining others were boys aged nine, eight, six and five.
The children's bodies have been removed from the property and autopsies are being conducted today.
Police say they have located a number of weapons, including knives, at the Queensland home.
They have also spoken to five men - fathers of the eight children.
The woman, believed to be Mersane Warria - who's also known as Raina Thaiday, has not yet been charged and remains under police guard at Cairns Hospital.
